“Have you ever heard or read “The Lord’s Prayer”, and wondered who the Father is? Have you ever considered the phrase “Our Father”, and thought about the scope of its meaning and relevance to your own identity—and to your own life?”

Scripture reference;

“After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.” Matthew 6:9 KJV

“1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2 The same was in the beginning with God.

3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.

7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.

8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.

9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man…

A Loving Pursuit: Part 29 (“Ephraim”…Fruitful In Affliction)

Scripture reference;

“10 And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noon day:

11 And the Lord shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.“ Isaiah 58:11 KJV

“1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God.

2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.

3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling.

4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:

5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

6 Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought:

7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:

8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.” 1 Corinthians 2:1-9 KJV

“ 46 And Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt.

47 And in the seven plenteous years the earth brought forth by handfuls.

48 And he gathered up all the food of the seven years, which were in the land of Egypt, and laid up the food in the cities: the food of the field, which was round about every city, laid he up in the same.

49 And Joseph gathered corn as the sand of the sea, very much, until he left numbering; for it was without number.

50 And unto Joseph were born two sons before the years of famine came, which Asenath the daughter of Potipherah priest of On bare unto him.

51 And Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh: For God, said he, hath made me forget all my toil, and all my father’s house.

52 And the name of the second called he Ephraim: For God hath caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction.“ Genesis 41:46-52 KJV

“The Land of ‘my’ affliction”—this phrase is interesting to me. In a number of ways ancient Egypt must have been a wonderful place for many of its inhabitants, but to Joseph it was not. For an unspecified period of time he had a great job in the house of Potiphar, but he was repeatedly harassed sexually by his master’s wife. Then he was falsely accused of doing the very thing she had been doing, and he was put in prison where he remained for a number of years. However, I believe that of all Joseph suffered during those years the most painful thing was his separation from Jacob, his father, and from Benjamin, his younger brother.

To be separated from those that you love is such a painful thing.

I mentioned in a previous post that there was a phrase (and its variations) that was repeated in the account of Joseph’s life that meant a lot to me:

“And the Lord was with Joseph…)” Genesis 39:2

“But the Lord was with Joseph” Genesis 39:21

“And Pharaoh said unto his servants, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is?” Genesis 41:38

“Haste ye, and go up to my father, and say unto him, Thus saith thy son Joseph, God hath made me lord of all Egypt: come down unto me, tarry not:” Genesis 45:9

“And Israel said unto Joseph, Behold, I die: but God shall be with you, and bring you again unto the land of your fathers.” Genesis 48:21

“24 And Joseph said unto his brethren, I die: and God will surely visit you, and bring you out of this land unto the land which he sware to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.

25 And Joseph took an oath of the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you, and ye shall carry up my bones from hence.” Genesis 50:24-25

This reminds me of a few more phrases:

“The Lord is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot.” Psalm 16:5

“20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;

21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:

23 I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.

24 Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.” John 17:20-23

“18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” Matthew 28:18-20

In the good times and the bad times those who have placed their faith in Jesus will never be alone. He will be with them and in them, and they will be fruitful.

The Lord is perfect. His ways are perfect. His wisdom is perfect. His timing is perfect. He loves perfectly. He forgives perfectly. He heals perfectly, and He guides perfectly.

We in our humanity are not perfect. We are weak. We are needy. We lack wisdom. We have no concept of time. We love imperfectly. We forgive imperfectly. We need healing and guidance. We might not be aware of this, but the Lord is fully aware of this…and that makes me so glad.

Timing—there is a time to remember, and a time to forget. We need to forgive, but sometimes it is hard. I believe sometimes the Lord causes us to forget things for awhile in order to help us heal. Then when we are ready to forgive more fully He will allow us to remember again. He brings new people, situations, and experiences that are therapeutic and healing. If I had to come up with a name for this I think I might call it “Divine Distraction”.

Scripture reference;

“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Romans 10:17 KJV

“6 And Joseph came in unto them in the morning, and looked upon them, and, behold, they were sad.

7 And he asked Pharaoh’s officers that were with him in the ward of his lord’s house, saying, Wherefore look ye so sadly to day?

8 And they said unto him, We have dreamed a dream, and there is no interpreter of it. And Joseph said unto them, Do not interpretations belong to God? tell me them, I pray you.

9 And the chief butler told his dream to Joseph, and said to him, In my dream, behold, a vine was before me;

10 And in the vine were three branches: and it was as though it budded, and her blossoms shot forth; and the clusters thereof brought forth ripe grapes:

11 And Pharaoh’s cup was in my hand: and I took the grapes, and pressed them into Pharaoh’s cup, and I gave the cup into Pharaoh’s hand.

12 And Joseph said unto him, This is the interpretation of it: The three branches are three days:

13 Yet within three days shall Pharaoh lift up thine head, and restore thee unto thy place: and thou shalt deliver Pharaoh’s cup into his hand, after the former manner when thou wast his butler.

14 But think on me when it shall be well with thee, and shew kindness, I pray thee, unto me, and make mention of me unto Pharaoh, and bring me out of this house:” Genesis 40:6-14 KJV

“20 And it came to pass the third day, which was Pharaoh’s birthday, that he made a feast unto all his servants: and he lifted up the head of the chief butler and of the chief baker among his servants.

21 And he restored the chief butler unto his butlership again; and he gave the cup into Pharaoh’s hand:” Genesis 40:20-21 KJV

“Yet did not the chief butler remember Joseph, but forgat him.” Genesis 40:23 KJV

<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3

“1 And it came to pass at the end of two full years, that Pharaoh dreamed: and, behold, he stood by the river.

2 And, behold, there came up out of the river seven well favoured kine and fatfleshed; and they fed in a meadow.

3 And, behold, seven other kine came up after them out of the river, ill favoured and leanfleshed; and stood by the other kine upon the brink of the river.

4 And the ill favoured and leanfleshed kine did eat up the seven well favoured and fat kine. So Pharaoh awoke.

5 And he slept and dreamed the second time: and, behold, seven ears of corn came up upon one stalk, rank and good.

6 And, behold, seven thin ears and blasted with the east wind sprung up after them.

7 And the seven thin ears devoured the seven rank and full ears. And Pharaoh awoke, and, behold, it was a dream.

8 And it came to pass in the morning that his spirit was troubled; and he sent and called for all the magicians of Egypt, and all the wise men thereof: and Pharaoh told them his dream; but there was none that could interpret them unto Pharaoh.

9 Then spake the chief butler unto Pharaoh, saying, I do remember my faults this day:

10 Pharaoh was wroth with his servants, and put me in ward in the captain of the guard’s house, both me and the chief baker:

11 And we dreamed a dream in one night, I and he; we dreamed each man according to the interpretation of his dream.

12 And there was there with us a young man, an Hebrew, servant to the captain of the guard; and we told him, and he interpreted to us our dreams; to each man according to his dream he did interpret.

13 And it came to pass, as he interpreted to us, so it was; me he restored unto mine office, and him he hanged.

14 Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon: and he shaved himself, and changed his raiment, and came in unto Pharaoh.

15 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I have dreamed a dream, and there is none that can interpret it: and I have heard say of thee, that thou canst understand a dream to interpret it.

16 And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, It is not in me: God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace.

17 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, In my dream, behold, I stood upon the bank of the river:

18 And, behold, there came up out of the river seven kine, fatfleshed and well favoured; and they fed in a meadow:

19 And, behold, seven other kine came up after them, poor and very ill favoured and leanfleshed, such as I never saw in all the land of Egypt for badness:

20 And the lean and the ill favoured kine did eat up the first seven fat kine:

21 And when they had eaten them up, it could not be known that they had eaten them; but they were still ill favoured, as at the beginning. So I awoke.

22 And I saw in my dream, and, behold, seven ears came up in one stalk, full and good:

23 And, behold, seven ears, withered, thin, and blasted with the east wind, sprung up after them:

24 And the thin ears devoured the seven good ears: and I told this unto the magicians; but there was none that could declare it to me.

25 And Joseph said unto Pharaoh, The dream of Pharaoh is one: God hath shewed Pharaoh what he is about to do.

26 The seven good kine are seven years; and the seven good ears are seven years: the dream is one.

27 And the seven thin and ill favoured kine that came up after them are seven years; and the seven empty ears blasted with the east wind shall be seven years of famine.

28 This is the thing which I have spoken unto Pharaoh: What God is about to do he sheweth unto Pharaoh.

29 Behold, there come seven years of great plenty throughout all the land of Egypt:

30 And there shall arise after them seven years of famine; and all the plenty shall be forgotten in the land of Egypt; and the famine shall consume the land;

31 And the plenty shall not be known in the land by reason of that famine following; for it shall be very grievous.

32 And for that the dream was doubled unto Pharaoh twice; it is because the thing is established by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass.

33 Now therefore let Pharaoh look out a man discreet and wise, and set him over the land of Egypt.

34 Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint officers over the land, and take up the fifth part of the land of Egypt in the seven plenteous years.

35 And let them gather all the food of those good years that come, and lay up corn under the hand of Pharaoh, and let them keep food in the cities.

36 And that food shall be for store to the land against the seven years of famine, which shall be in the land of Egypt; that the land perish not through the famine.

37 And the thing was good in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of all his servants.

38 And Pharaoh said unto his servants, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is?

39 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art:

40 Thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than thou.

41 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt.

42 And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it upon Joseph’s hand, and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck;

43 And he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried before him, Bow the knee: and he made him ruler over all the land of Egypt.

44 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I am Pharaoh, and without thee shall no man lift up his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt.

45 And Pharaoh called Joseph’s name Zaphnathpaaneah; and he gave him to wife Asenath the daughter of Potipherah priest of On. And Joseph went out over all the land of Egypt.

46 And Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt.  Genesis 41:1-46 KJV

“Will today be the day?”

How many times did Joseph utter those words during the two years that followed the butler’s release from prison? “Will today be the day?” How many times did he ask that question as he longed to be reunited with his family?

He was 17 when his brothers sold him into slavery where he served in Potiphar’s house for a period of time, and then more than two years in prison. He was thirty when Pharoah made him ruler over all of Egypt. That’s 13 years.  According to “Barnes’ Notes on the Bible”, he had been separated from his family for twenty years altogether when he finally saw them again!  I found these words that Joseph finally spoke to Pharoah interesting:

“And for that the dream was doubled unto Pharaoh twice; it is because the thing is established by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass.” Genesis 41:32 KJV

As I read this I remembered Joseph’s dreams:

“5 And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it his brethren: and they hated him yet the more.

6 And he said unto them, Hear, I pray you, this dream which I have dreamed:

7 For, behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and, lo, my sheaf arose, and also stood upright; and, behold, your sheaves stood round about, and made obeisance to my sheaf.

8 And his brethren said to him, Shalt thou indeed reign over us? or shalt thou indeed have dominion over us? And they hated him yet the more for his dreams, and for his words.

9 And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it his brethren, and said, Behold, I have dreamed a dream more; and, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made obeisance to me.

10 And he told it to his father, and to his brethren: and his father rebuked him, and said unto him, What is this dream that thou hast dreamed? Shall I and thy mother and thy brethren indeed come to bow down ourselves to thee to the earth?

11 And his brethren envied him; but his father observed the saying.” Genesis 37:5-11 KJV

Both Joseph and Pharoah dreamed two dreams each. However, we can see that there was a space of time between Josephs dreams, because he shared them with his family on two different occasions, whereas Pharoah dreamed both of his dreams the same night. I wonder if it was always the case that “doubled” dreams that people in the Bible dreamed always came to pass shortly? It is interesting to think about. If anyone out there would like to research the matter I would enjoy reading your findings.

Joseph dreamed a dream, and many years passed before he saw it’s fulfillment. He lived in conditions that might cause anyone to doubt. However, the Lord was with Joseph, and he spoke to Joseph (sometimes indirectly), and the Lord used Joseph in ways that caused others to grow in their knowledge of our wonderful God who is fully aware our own situations and struggles even before we call on Him…and who is also able deal with them.

A Convenient Time

January 1, 2016 at 6:34 pm (abiding, Assurance, Devotional Thoughts., Faith, Grace, Guidance, Hope, Life, Lighter Burdens., Love, Mercy, Our Unchanging God, Peace, refuge, Repentance, Righteousness, Salvation, Transformation., Trusting, Truth, value, When you are afraid, When you feel bitter, When You Feel Like Crying., Wisdom, Witnessing, worth)

Some of my older readers will all remember our precious sister in Christ, Debbie Feller. She is going through a rough time right now as she tries to make her mother (who is ill) as comfortable and supported as possible. Please take the time this weekend to pray for Debbie and her family.

Love,
Theresa

Deb's Blog

“Now as he [Paul] reasoned about righteousness, self-control, and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid and answered, ‘Go away for now; when I have a convenient time I will call for you’.” Acts 24:25

There will never be a more convenient time than right now to believe Jesus.

Lord, please help those who hear of You today make a decision to follow You and not wait a minute longer. And here’s a simple poem . . .

How About Now?

Now is
the right time

this moment
is the best

to welcome Jesus
into our hearts

to accept His love
and rest.
