Jesus Wept (Part 2…And David Cried)

January 31, 2010 at 6:58 am (1, Assurance, Devotional Series I Have Written, Devotional Thoughts., Jesus Wept, Lighter Burdens., When You Feel Like Crying.)

Scripture References;

Jesus wept. John 11:35 KJV

I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah.  I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me.  Psalm 3:4-5 KJV

I cried unto the LORD with my voice; with my voice unto the LORD did I make my supplication.  I poured out my complaint before him; I shewed before him my trouble.  When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, then thou knewest my path. In the way wherein I walked have they privily laid a snare for me.  I looked on my right hand, and beheld, but there was no man that would know me: refuge failed me; no man cared for my soul.  I cried unto thee, O LORD: I said, Thou art my refuge and my portion in the land of the living.  Attend unto my cry; for I am brought very low: deliver me from my persecutors; for they are stronger than I.  Bring my soul out of prison, that I may praise thy name: the righteous shall compass me about; for thou shalt deal bountifully with me.  Psalm142  KJV

Sing unto the LORD, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.  For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.  Psalm 30:4-5 KJV

Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.  Matthew 5:4 KJV

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.  Revelation 21:4 KJV

I am thinking about the lyrics to a song.  This time it’s neither a hymn or even a Christian song,  but the words express a really good thought. It is titled “Cry” and the version I know is sung by Crystal Gayle.  Here is a link you can use if would like to hear it, and the words are written below.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-lT_4Vp7QE&feature=related

“If your  sweetheart Sends a letter of goodbye it’s no secret You’ll feel better if you cry.  When waking from a bad dream Don’t you sometimes think it’s real?  But it’s only false emotions that you feel.  If your heartache Seems to hang around too long, and your blues keep getting bluer with each song, remember sunshine can be found behind a cloudy sky… So let your hair down And go on and cry”

I like the thoughts in that song,  but  I wouldn’t stop the thought process there.  Some of our best cries are the ones where we cry on someone’s shoulder then that person gives us a hug and hopefully a lot of Kleenex.  But not just anybody will do. It really needs to be someone who really cares, someone who has been there and really understands.  There is someone whose shoulder is the most qualified of all, and not only that, but His shoulder will always be there.  I bet you know who it is.  That’s right…It’s  the Lord.  King David knew this, too.  He is the one who wrote the Psalms listed in the scripture references above.

Jesus Wept (Part One)

January 28, 2010 at 5:29 pm (1, Devotional Series I Have Written, Devotional Thoughts., Jesus Wept, When You Feel Like Crying.)

Scripture Reference;

Jesus wept. John 11:35

Would you like to know what I just read a moment ago?  This is what I read:  “The Bible (Strong’s Concordance) provides 697 references for verses associated with crying (weep, cry, tears).”  I do have a “Strong’s Concordance” It is a huge hard back book (I weighed it on the bathroom scale, and it weighed 5 pounds.) It was a gift someone gave me about 10 years ago. I did not count to see if the number above is accurate, but I suspect that it is.

I will tell you something else, too.  Hymn books make mention of tears and weeping a lot.  Three songs come immediately to my mind.  Here they are below:

My Saviour’s Love by Charles H. Gabriel

I stand amazed in the presence
Of Jesus the Nazarene,
And wonder how He could love me,
A sinner, condemned, unclean.

O how marvelous! O how wonderful!
And my song shall ever be:
O how marvelous! O how wonderful!
Is my Savior’s love for me!

For me it was in the garden
He prayed: “Not My will, but Thine.”
He had no tears for His own griefs,
But sweat drops of blood for mine.

In pity angels beheld Him,
And came from the world of light
To comfort Him in the sorrows
He bore for my soul that night.

He took my sins and my sorrows,
He made them His very own;
He bore the burden to Calvary,
And suffered and died alone.

When with the ransomed in glory
His face I at last shall see,
’Twill be my joy through the ages
To sing of His love for me.

He Washed My Eyes With Tears by Ira Stanphill

He washed my eyes with tears that I might see,
The broken heart I had was good for me;
He tore it all apart and looked inside,
He found it full of fear and foolish pride.
He swept away the things that made me blind
And then I saw the clouds were silver lined;
And now I understand ’twas best for me
He washed my eyes with tears that I might see.

He washed my eyes with tears that I might see
The glory of Himself revealed to me;
I did not know that He had wounded hands
I saw the blood He spilt upon the sands.
I saw the marks of shame and wept and cried;
He was my substitute for me He died;
And now I’m glad He came so tenderly;
And washed my eyes with tears that I might see.

Broken and Spilled Out by Gloria Gaither

One day a plain village woman
Driven by love for her Lord
Recklessly poured out a valuable essence
Disregarding the scorn
And once it was broken and spilled out
A fragrance filled all the room
Like a prisoner released from his shackles
Like a spirit set free from the tomb

Broken and spilled out
Just for love of you, Jesus
My most precious treasure
Lavished on thee
Broken and spilled out
And poured at your feet
In sweet abandon
Let me be spilled out
And used up for Thee

Lord you were God’s precious treasure
His loved and his own perfect Son
Sent here to show me the love of the Father
Just for love it was done
And though you were perfect and holy
You gave up yourself willingly
You spared no expense for my pardon
You were used up and wasted for me

Broken and spilled out
Just for love of me Jesus
God’s most precious treasure
Lavished on me
Broken and spilled out
And poured at my feet
In sweet abandon
Lord you were spilled out
And used up for me

So what do I have to say in response to this?  I’ll tell you now what I have to say.  Jesus wept.  So if you are hurting…go ahead and cry.  I did last night…for a long time.
