“I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.” John 10:11KJV

“12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.

13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.” John 15:12-14KJV

“4 Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant 5 or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful;[b] 6 it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. 7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 ESV

“28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Jesus came into this world with a mission. He had much to say and to do. He was and is the Good Shepherd. Everything He ever said or did was motivated by His perfect and unfailing love.

The account of the rich young ruler means a lot to me. In verse 18 Jesus was not denying that He was good. The young man had recognized that Jesus was good, but had not recognized “who” He actually was. Here is the entire conversation:

17 And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?

18 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.

19 Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother.

20 And he answered and said unto him, Master, all these have I observed from my youth.

21 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.

22 And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.

23 And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!

24 And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!

25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

26 And they were astonished out of measure, saying among themselves, Who then can be saved?

27 And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible. Mark 10:17-27 KJV

We follow commands all of the time. We have parents and teachers who instruct us, employers who give us tasks to do, and we have laws in the countries in which we reside that most of us obey. Some of these commands might be for our good, and some might not be for our good.

Aren’t you glad that all of Christ’s commands are for our good? He will never exploit us. He has so much He longs to give us. Let’s draw near Him, and allow Him to teach us today!

Scripture reference;

“ If ye love me, keep my commandments.” John 14:15

I think I am going to try to blog today. I still have other series that I need to finish—my “Loving Pursuit” series and a couple of others that I started and then abandoned about a year ago. But I have to feel “lead” whenever I write anything.  Recently I have had this verse on my mind:

“ If ye love me, keep my commandments.” John 14:15

Ever since my early teens I have wanted to be an obedient follower of Christ.

At times my heart would cool and the lure of the world would entice me for a season here and there. Yet even then, I had that drawing going on inside me—convicting me, and eventually compelling me to return to the Lord.

I also want to say that even on my very best day I still sin to some extent in my thoughts, my words, and in my actions. My personal interpretation of scripture tells me that this is the experience of all Christians. We will not be perfectly obedient until we have our new bodies in Heaven.

I haven’t really written much on the subject of obedience, though, because ever since I first started this blog back in 2010 I have held to the belief that any obedience that takes place in a believers life will be the result of drawing near the Lord in Bible study and in prayer…that obedience is a product of the Spirit filled life. The goal of my blog has always been to present the reader with a glimpse of the Father’s heart, so that certain obstacles which keep people from approaching Him might be overcome.

Lately I have had a desire to return to the four gospels and read what Christ’s commandments are. I am really not sure how I want to go about this. There are many great scholars out there who have written much on this subject. I am not one of them. I am just an ordinary woman who has decided to read them and to share what I find there.

Please pray for me that the Lord would guide me in this.
