Scripture Reference;

Psalm 103

 1Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.

 2Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:

 3Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;

 4Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;

 5Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

 6The LORD executeth righteousness and judgment for all that are oppressed.

 7He made known his ways unto Moses, his acts unto the children of Israel.

 8The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy.

 9He will not always chide: neither will he keep his anger for ever.

 10He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.

 11For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him.

 12As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.

 13Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him.

 14For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust.

 15As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth.

 16For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more.

 17But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children’s children;

 18To such as keep his covenant, and to those that remember his commandments to do them.

 19The LORD hath prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom ruleth over all.

 20Bless the LORD, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word.

 21Bless ye the LORD, all ye his hosts; ye ministers of his, that do his pleasure.

 22Bless the LORD, all his works in all places of his dominion: bless the LORD, O my soul.

For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. Philippians 2:13 KJV

26Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

 27And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. Romans 8:26-27 KJV

13But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing. 2 Thessalonians 3:22 KJV

10Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. Psalm 46:10

I had some time alone with the Lord a little while ago, and it was such a wonderful time of refreshment for me. It is such a beautiful thing when you start out praying, because you know it is what the Lord wants you to do, and then in the midst of the praying you are suddenly and unexpectedly filled with peace and gladness as the distractions begin to diminish. The prayer time was transformed into a wonderful restful experience. As I enjoyed this time a phrase kept coming to my mind…“Forget not all  his benefits”.

I decided to look and see from where that phrase came. I looked on line and was directed to Psalm 103, and what a treasure I found there!  I think that Lord willing, I will meditate on portions of this psalm and share what I find.

 1Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.

David’s words were to Bless the Lord with his soul and all that was within him and to bless the name of the Lord. I looked up the word “Bless” in My Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible and noticed that every time it was used in the Book of Psalms it had the number 1288 out to the side. It always meant the same thing. I looked up the Hebrew meaning. I was a little puzzled at what I found, because a lot of seemingly conflicting things were written there. I must confess that I am not a formal theologian…just a wife and mom. Sometimes I can look these things up and it is easy, but at other times it is challenging. Below is a link where much can be read. Some commentators’ thoughts are shared there that would be helpful to anyone who is curious about just how much is encompassed in the word “Bless”.  http://bible.cc/psalms/103-1.htm

As I read that page I started to feel a little overwhelmed and inadequate at the thought of praying this psalm…at uttering the word Blessin a way that would be pleasing to the Lord, and not merely with my lips, but with my heart close to His. Then I remembered a couple verses that encouraged me, and helped me not to become “weary in well doing”. Here they are below:

13For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

Aren’t those wonderful words?!  Just draw near the Lord, bow your head, close your eyes, and allow the Spirit to do the rest. Just be still in His presence and know that He is God. He will take it from there. If you are having trouble…just tell him…tell him all about it…He will help you. He always helps me.  🙂
