A Loving Pursuit: Part 22 (Loving Observation)

Scripture reference;

“He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.” Ecclesiastes 3:11

“3 Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age: and he made him a coat of many colours. Genesis 37:3 KJV

9 And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it his brethren, and said, Behold, I have dreamed a dream more; and, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made obeisance to me. Genesis 37:9 KJV

11 And his brethren envied him; but his father observed the saying.” Genesis 37:11 KJV

Oh how Israel (Jacob) loved Joseph!

It is interesting to me that it didn’t say that he loved Joseph because of any of the admirable qualities that this son possessed. It said he loved Joseph more because he was the son of his old age.  Over the years Jacob had experienced many things that had molded him into the man he was; things that had transformed him into a wiser and more loving person. By the time Joseph was born Jacob had been humbled, and was tenderhearted. It is not surprising that this would have an impact on his love for for him.

Let’s look at the rest of chapter 37:

12 And his brethren went to feed their father’s flock in Shechem.

13 And Israel said unto Joseph, Do not thy brethren feed the flock in Shechem? come, and I will send thee unto them. And he said to him, Here am I.

14 And he said to him, Go, I pray thee, see whether it be well with thy brethren, and well with the flocks; and bring me word again. So he sent him out of the vale of Hebron, and he came to Shechem.

15 And a certain man found him, and, behold, he was wandering in the field: and the man asked him, saying, What seekest thou?

16 And he said, I seek my brethren: tell me, I pray thee, where they feed their flocks.

17 And the man said, They are departed hence; for I heard them say, Let us go to Dothan. And Joseph went after his brethren, and found them in Dothan.

18 And when they saw him afar off, even before he came near unto them, they conspired against him to slay him.

19 And they said one to another, Behold, this dreamer cometh.

20 Come now therefore, and let us slay him, and cast him into some pit, and we will say, Some evil beast hath devoured him: and we shall see what will become of his dreams.

21 And Reuben heard it, and he delivered him out of their hands; and said, Let us not kill him.

22 And Reuben said unto them, Shed no blood, but cast him into this pit that is in the wilderness, and lay no hand upon him; that he might rid him out of their hands, to deliver him to his father again.

23 And it came to pass, when Joseph was come unto his brethren, that they stript Joseph out of his coat, his coat of many colours that was on him;

24 And they took him, and cast him into a pit: and the pit was empty, there was no water in it.

25 And they sat down to eat bread: and they lifted up their eyes and looked, and, behold, a company of Ishmeelites came from Gilead with their camels bearing spicery and balm and myrrh, going to carry it down to Egypt.

26 And Judah said unto his brethren, What profit is it if we slay our brother, and conceal his blood?

27 Come, and let us sell him to the Ishmeelites, and let not our hand be upon him; for he is our brother and our flesh. And his brethren were content.

28 Then there passed by Midianites merchantmen; and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmeelites for twenty pieces of silver: and they brought Joseph into Egypt.

29 And Reuben returned unto the pit; and, behold, Joseph was not in the pit; and he rent his clothes.

30 And he returned unto his brethren, and said, The child is not; and I, whither shall I go?

31 And they took Joseph’s coat, and killed a kid of the goats, and dipped the coat in the blood;

32 And they sent the coat of many colours, and they brought it to their father; and said, This have we found: know now whether it be thy son’s coat or no.

33 And he knew it, and said, It is my son’s coat; an evil beast hath devoured him; Joseph is without doubt rent in pieces.

34 And Jacob rent his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his loins, and mourned for his son many days.

35 And all his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him; but he refused to be comforted; and he said, For I will go down into the grave unto my son mourning. Thus his father wept for him.

36 And the Midianites sold him into Egypt unto Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh’s, and captain of the guard.  Genesis 37:12-36 KJV

A loving heart is touched by sorrow in a way that no other can be touched. Our Heavenly Father  is deeply grieved when His children suffer and die. The difference is that He is much more aware… “fully” aware of the wonderful joy that awaits them. He knows everything, and has the will and the power to make everything better…“everything beautiful in his time”.

Below is some scripture that comes to my mind. I hope it blesses you.

“Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.” James 5:11 KJV

“4 What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it?

5 And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing.

6 And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost.

7 I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.” Luke 15:4-7KJV

“21 Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.

22 But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee.

23 Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again.

24 Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.

25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:

26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

27 She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.

28 And when she had so said, she went her way, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Master is come, and calleth for thee.

29 As soon as she heard that, she arose quickly, and came unto him.

30 Now Jesus was not yet come into the town, but was in that place where Martha met him.

31 The Jews then which were with her in the house, and comforted her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up hastily and went out, followed her, saying, She goeth unto the grave to weep there.

32 Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.

33 When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled.

34 And said, Where have ye laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see.

35 Jesus wept.

36 Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him!

37 And some of them said, Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died?

38 Jesus therefore again groaning in himself cometh to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it.

39 Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days.

40 Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?

41 Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me.

42 And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me.

43 And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.

44 And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.” John 11:21-44 KJV

Transitions Part 25: “What Can Separate You?”

September 26, 2015 at 11:23 am (Devoted To My Daughter, Devoted To My Son, Devotional Thoughts., Faith, Grace, Healing, Holy Spirit, Joy, Life, Lighter Burdens., Love, Love, Mercy, Our Unchanging God, Peace, Praise, Provision, refuge, Restoration, self-esteem, Sovereignty of God, Thanksgiving, The Greatest Commandment, Transitions ( Where I am, where I have been...the happenings of my life), treasures, Trusting, Truth, value, When you are afraid, When you feel bitter, When You Feel Like Crying.)

Scripture reference;

“26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth.

34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.

35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.

37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,

39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

I mentioned in one of my posts that I went to work back in July. Then for a little while I took a second job. Now I am still working at the first job, and I am so happy to say that I have had the opportunity to work even more hours there filling in for others. My job title is “waiver”. I work one-on-one with adults known as “consumers” who have intellectual disabilities in a supportive living setting.

I cannot tell you how rewarding my job is. Below is an excerpt from a letter I wrote to a friend. I am sharing it in order to show how these wonderful people have touched me and ministered to me. The names have been changed out of respect for their privacy.

Last weekend (the 12th and 13th of September) I didn’t have my favorite consumer, Mallory (the married one).  I normally have her from 11am until 2pm on Saturdays, and from 10 am until 1 pm on Sundays. She went out of town that weekend. In order to make up those 6 hours I was allowed to fill in as staff for another consumer named Kim. Actually I got to work 8 hours for her instead of 6 hours.

Saturday afternoon Kim asked me if I would take her to Walmart to get prints of some pictures she had taken. She told me that she didn’t know how to do it, but her friend June did, and wanted to know if June could come with us, so we got permission from the people in charge that day, and they said it was okay.  When we all started to get into my van this man named Calvin walked up and started to get in, too. Calvin is June’s husband. He and June are in their late 30’s. All three of them are higher functioning than some of the other residents there…perhaps like children who are 12 or 13 years in age  if I had to guess. I got permission for him to come, too, so we all left for Walmart.

Here is the sweet part that touched me:  Calvin and June are the sweetest couple. June is really pretty, and Calvin is handsome. He is very friendly and likes to talk. She is more reserved. They both were so polite, and gentle and kind with each other and with everyone. When we were at the store June had to print some pictures, too. Calvin wanted to show them to me. I assumed they would be of him and his wife, but a bunch were of a little donkey they had seen somewhere. I told him that they were nice. Then he told me that it was a little donkey like the one Jesus rode. Then when we were leaving he mentioned a little girl he saw in the store that was really sweet, and began to tell me how precious little children were; how Jesus loves little children. I just couldn’t get over how the love of Christ just gushed out of him.

There have been moments like that with Mallory, too. I take her to her church each Sunday morning. One time while driving back to her apartment after church was dismissed I mentioned that I enjoyed the sermon which had been about Jonah and the whale. She then exclaimed, “I have Jesus in my heart!” If only you could have seen her radiant glow! She is such a joyful person with the most obvious fruit of the Spirit.

I am so thankful for the Lord’s unfailing love, and the multitude of ways that He lavishes us with it.  Here is a song that I hope will bless you I am so glad that I found it on youtube.

Blessings,

Theresa
