The Bug Man

Scripture reference;

A merry heart does good, like medicine,[b]
But a broken spirit dries the bones.” Proverbs 17:22 KJV

Today was a challenging day for me at my job. Actually the whole week has been like that.

Don’t get me wrong. I love my job.

I work with an elderly lady who also has developmental disabilities in an assisted living situation. This week she has been adjusting to some changes that were made to her plan of care, and it has been hard on her emotionally. I have also been given some new tasks that I must complete, and also more paperwork.

Change is hard.

Not long after arriving at her apartment I was sitting at her kitchen table folding some laundry, and feeling a little overwhelmed and heavyhearted about life in general.

Then there was a knock at the door. I answered, “Come in”.

The door opened, and in walked the bug man with his little sprayer in his hand. He appeared to be in his late sixties, and had this warm smile that seemed to convey that he truly enjoyed his job and that life was good. He asked if we had any bugs and then quickly made his way through the apartment squirting the baseboards.

On his way out he glanced at my little lady who was laying cozy on the sofa under a blanket, then back at me, and made a kind remark about her. I nodded and said, “She’s a little sweet pea”. I couldn’t help but smile, too as I considered her.

The whole experience took place in less than 5 minutes, but it was a healing experience for me. The effect wasn’t permanent, but it carried me for awhile.  It reminded me of the potential that lies within us to lessen the pain of others.

A Christmas Language Arts Lesson: (The Lesson that Keeps on Teaching)

I smiled as I read this. My days as a homeschool teacher ended years ago. I remember day dreaming about the possibility of going back to college and eventually becoming an English teacher. I still do every once in awhile.

 Scripture references;

“1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2The same was in the beginning with God. 3All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 5And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.” John 1:1-5 KJV

 9That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. 10He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. 11He came unto his own, and his own received him not. 12But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that…

Thankful For Laughter

November is drawing to a close. Here is another re-blogged post of mine. I’m hoping it will bring a smile.

Scripture Reference;

In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.  1Thessalonians 5:18  KJV

22A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.  Proverbs 17:22 KJV

I know that television can be one of those taboo subjects with Christians, and whenever we watch it, it is good to have the remote control in hand, so we can hurry and change the channel in case anything bad comes on, but I am so thankful that once in awhile we can enjoy an episode that not only makes us laugh, but also reminds us that we should be thankful. The episode clip below illustrates how unthankful we can be, while providing us with a little chuckle, too!  🙂

Encircling Love (Part 2…Circle the Answer)

“…Today I am thinking about how workbooks are in some ways very similar to life. They both present us with new material to be covered, and lessons to be learned. They also present us with material that we have previously covered to help ensure retention. They each also come with questions to be answered and problems to be solved…”
